Spotlight: Ollie HQ

A Labor of Love

Ollie’s Director of Design, Jacqueline Schmidt’s, greatest passion is renovations when it comes to design. “There is nothing like bringing a lifeless space back to life.” Ollie’s design team recently underwent a gut renovation at their new headquarters in NoMad.

Before the renovation, the office space had funky concrete floors, drop ceilings, wonky metal radiator covers, fluorescent lighting, painted-shut windows, wood paneled dividers, and so forth. “The space felt very cold,” said Schmidt.

When Jacqueline and her team viewed the space, they knew they wanted to bring a sense of nature into the mix. Teaming up with vendors like PID floors, Ethnicraft, Hay, Carter Reade, Workstead, Allied Maker, Artistic Tile, Design Within Reach, Saaw, Blomberg, Haier and Kohler, they were able to completely modernize and transform the space. The “after” experience of the space is virtually unrecognizable from the “before.” “We wanted to make sure that the moment you walked off the elevator you felt like you were invited into a cohesive, soothing, natural, and whimsical world.” She continues, “We were able to achieve that with original art, vintage decor, heirloom quality goods, and natural objects.” Jacqueline believes that floors are the number one thing that defines a space. The wide oak planks used throughout the floor plan bring in that sense of warmth that makes you instantly feel at home.

Live plants adorn the windows and conference rooms furthering the nature-inspired theme. Jacqueline also believes that lighting is the “jewelry” of any space. She loves the industrial lighting and craftsmanship of Workstead and Allied Maker. Her favorite surprise along the way was discovering old radiators under the metal encasements and refurbishing them. It has the old school charm and yet pairs nicely with the modern theme. “Discovery” is one of Ollie’s values, so it was important to convey that in the experience of the space. Ollie set out to build their headquarters as a showroom to showcase their product, furnishings, and overall neutral palette. They felt that when you visit Ollie, it should reflect what developers and partners can expect to see in their buildings and for the Ollie team themselves to experience what they are creating for their residents and guests. It was clearly a labor of love and the benefit was that the Ollie team loves coming to work everyday.

“You spend most of your day at work, it’s important you stay inspired.” – Jacqueline
